Peters Valley Kiln

Help keep the fire burning in the Noborigama Kiln!

Our Noborigama Kiln has been damaged after the structure that shelters it collapsed due to the weight of this winter's extreme snow. We are in critical need of funds to help rebuild the collapsed structure and repair the kiln damage.
and help us reach our goal of $20,000.

Your donation will go a long way to helping us restore this critical piece of our ceramic studio. With your support, our unique kiln can continue to benefit a diverse and inspired group of people from students, to artist instructors, studio assistants, artist fellows, resident artists, and Peters Valley visitors.
"In the few weeks since the collapse of the roof over our two-chamber wood kiln I have received many phone calls and messages of support. Needless to say, I've been struck by the generosity shown toward the School and the Ceramics Department in particular. Please know that we truly appreciate whatever amount you're able to give."  Bruce Dehnert, Ceramic Studio Department Head
We are firmly committed to repairing the damage. Any donation of $75 or more will receive a Peters Valley T-shirt as a thank you.

With Sincere Gratitude,

NEWS

Lynn Goodman, and I (Sabina Magnus) met with Martine Bisagni this afternoon ( Sunday 3/23/14) to see her street level studio and teaching space and to talk about how the Brooklyn Potters could work with the Brooklyn Workshop Gallery to increase relevance to its membership. Many ideas were discussed. Martine is an experienced organizer so we feel grateful for her input and help. As some of you know Martine has offered her lovely space to us for our meetings. She also offered window space in her gallery window for those weekends to members who attend meetings. Martine is also working with Dan Marino to generate more interest in handmade. Dan has been organizing artist studio tours in Brooklyn for the past few years. This year the tour will take place during the weekend of May 31st. Martine offered her gallery space which is located in the Gowanis neighborhood to Brooklyn Potters for that weekend. She is also talking about connecting with other local businesses to generate awareness and direct connections with the public. All these ideas sound very promising and will need interested parties from the Brooklyn Potters membership. Please post comments to this or email me to let us know your thoughts

Ancient Japanese "Tupperware"

I found the following story on the NPR website

Japanese Tea Ritual Turned 15th Century 'Tupperware' Into Art
by Susan Stamberg

NPR - March 18, 2014
Eight hundred years ago, tea traveled to Japan from China in simple, ceramic storage jars. These ancient jugs, now on display in Washington, D.C., helped launch Japan's tea culture.

Dues and donation to the Park Slope Y

Hi all.

It was decided at this last meeting to give a gift of $200.00 to the Y as a thank you for allowing us to hold meetings in their space for the past years. We gave what we could considering our current budget which brings me to the next topic. Dues are due!  $25.00 for the year. This money is used for paying program presenters such as the upcoming Ikabana workshop on May 4th.

Please send your dues to Ragnar. If you don't know the address please email me an I will give it to you. You all should have my email address if you have been receiving BPG emails from me.
