Chantel Woodman will be giving a talk about her work:

Chantel Woodman is a Cape Town based artist-designer, with a multidisciplinary
background in design, metal smiting and sculpture – a diverse skill set, which has
culminated in a unique and experimental approach to ceramics.
Woodman started her career as a jewellery designer in 2003.  In 2008 she was
introduced to sculpting by renowned local Cape Town artist Stefan Blom, whom
helped develop her skills and gave her the tools to express her love for figure and
form.

Chantel’s work has been selected as part of ‘World Design Capital 2014’ ‘Month Of
Ceramics’.  She has also exhibited through Galleries and Design shows such as
Southern Guild, Bronze Age, Ebony Gallery as well as Glaugair Berlin, Germany.
Chantel is currently in New York City for her latest show, in collaboration with
artist, Frans Smit - ‘New Africa, South York’.

I draw inspiration from my immediate surroundings of urban design and modern
architecture, simultaneously testing the boundaries of material sensitivities with a
playful engagement of various metals and clay discovering the tension between
the visible and invisible.  The process is inquisitive and unique.
