ABOUT THE WAH SALON ART CLUB:
The WAH Center offers an artist membership program called the “WAH Salon Art Club”. Every January, the members can participate in the Annual WAH Salon Show, which gives exposure to artists of a wide range and spectrum – from emerging, to mid-career, and established artists in all media. It fulfills one of the WAH Center’s missions based upon the WAH Founder’s “Bridge Concept”. At the Salon, fine art can meet functional art (craft) and performing art (music, dance, theater, and poetry). Technology can also give means to artist expression. Here, young and old and all nations and cultures can bridge their expressions through the international language of art. In concept, the Salon is all the colors of the artist’s palette. We invite everyone to come and visit us and see the merit of the international “Bridge Concept” in the arts.
PLUS:
AROUND THE WORLD IN 10 WEEKS—IN TWO HOURS
Special program by Salon member, a photographer, Joel Simpson
Sunday, February 15 2015, from 3 to 5:30pm

Master photographer Joel Simpson spent 10 weeks visiting 12 countries around the world, mostly in Asia. He’s distilled his 40,000 images into a 2-hour slide show of about 1000 of his best images  featuring the people, geography, geology, architecture, archaeology, flora, fauna, cultures, and atmospheric effects from Turkey, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, India, Nepal, Tibet, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Japan, with a coda over southern Alaskan mountains at dawn. In addition, he’ll offer tips on travel in third world countries, including getting around, saving money, and traveling light among subjects.

In late October 1996, Yuko Nii founded the non-profit The WAH Center (Williamsburg Art & Historical Center) based upon her Bridge Concept. That concept envisions a multifaceted, multicultural art center whose mission is to coalesce the diverse artistic community, and create a bridge between local, national and international artists, emerging and established artists, and artists of all disciplines. Thus through the internatinal language of art we come to understand each other to create a more peaceful and integrated world. The WAH Center is a force for peace and understanding and its concept is incorporated in its acronym: “WAH” in Japanese means “peace” or “harmony” or “unity”.

The conversations are meant to challenge preconceptions and explore new territory, inspiring you to think about the world in fresh and different ways… all in the comfort of your home, studio or classroom.
NCECA and 92Y encourage you to gather groups in your own communities to become part of these dynamic presentations and discussions.
The course interface we will be using, Fuze, is offered as a free download and will permit questions and discussion to filter in via video and text connections. In order to participate, please make sure you are able to meet the following minimum system requirements:
  1. High speed Internet connection
  2. Internal or external computer speaker
  3. Internal or external computer mic
  4. PC users: Windows 7 or higher (Windows XP will not work)
  5. MAC users: OS x 10.8.5 or higher.
This presentation is one of several initiatives NCECA is taking to help us extend meaningful conversations and thinking about ceramics beyond the annual conference.
Thanks to our friends at the 92nd Street Y for making this event possible and to all of you who become a part of this discourse.

Korea Trip for Potters!

Hi all
Susan Loche thought this might be of interest:

Hi
By now you know that we develop what some Korean tour authorities are calling, “The most comprehensive and culturally rich tours to Korea”.  You probably also know we are not professional travel agents but simply people who have been to Korea many times, have made many contacts there and who organize these tours simply to promote Korean arts and culture.
Spring of 2015 provides us two exceptional tour possibilities.  The Korean Ceramic Tour in mid to late April will experience the breadth and depth of Korea’s exciting ceramic culture by visiting significant ceramic artists and both the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (formally WOCEF) and the Mungyeong Teabowl Festival.  This is a very rare paring of festivals as GICB typically takes place in autumn.
Tea Tour Korea 2015 that will take place in May.  It too will visit the GICBiennale and significant teaware artists but will also visit the Hadong Tea Festival and many significant tea producers throughout Korea.  If the timing is right and it looks that way at this writing we would also experience the gorgeous and exciting Lotus Lantern Festival in Seoul.
Although I have said this before, these two tours may be the last tours we host to Korea.  We will not hast a tour to Korea in 2016.
If you have ever considered joining us. or returning to be with us one more time. 2015 is the time to join us.
There is no obligation to be on the “interested list”,  Please send us your name and email address to secure your spot at least until we receive confirmation of the festival dates in Korea.  Only GICB is known for sure at this writing.
Like us on our Morning Crane Tea Facebook page at:https://www.facebook.com/MorningCraneTea?ref=hl
These tours will both be small group tours offered at essentially no profit.  Again, Korean travel authorities have called our tours, “The most comprehensive and culturally rich tours to Korea”.  Native Koreans on our tours have said they had never been so enriched by Korea’s culture.  “You know Korea better than I do.” they have said.  Now, in 2015 you have the opportunity to visit this amazing country.  Contact us to be added to the list for one or both of these tours and to learn more at no obligation.
Respectfully,
Arthur K. J. Park

Kilns for Sale!!

Kilns for Sale!!

Contact directly:

Linda Casbon
Email: lcasbon@gmail.com

I'm posting because I have a few kilns that I need to find homes for: a skutt 1227 computer kiln (208 volt, 3 phase), and an Olympic oval 3027 (208volt, single phase). They are both in fairly good shape. The Skutt might need a relay, but the elements were changed recently. I have been told that it can be converted to a single phase for about $400. I just replaced the elements and broken bricks in the oval kiln and it needs a slight bit of wiring work (loose connections in middle section). The Skutt is free for the taking, and I will let the oval go for the price of my repairs: $450.

I am anxious to  get things moving and thought the. If there is anyone interested, please contact me ASAP - I'm anxious to get things moving.

Thanks much!

Linda Casbon
