National Juried Figurative Ceramic Sculpture Exhibit
September 27 – October 26, 2014
Juror: Lilly Wei -- art critic, independent curator and contributing editor at ARTnews
While ceramics have been used for both practical and aesthetic reasons for thousands of years, the medium has experienced an amazing renaissance among artists in the past decade. Today ceramics are integrated into contemporary art. Art In Clay II: Figuratively Speaking is about figurative sculpture in clay representing a range of work from representational to abstract, traditional to experimental.
Important Dates:
June 2nd - Early Bird submissions deadline – must be received by midnight June 2nd, 2014
June 16th – On Time submissions deadline – must be received by midnight June 16th, 2014
June 30th – Late submissions deadline – must be received by midnight June 30th, 2013

$850 in Cash Awards:
Gold -- $500 cash prize
Silver -- $250 cash prize
Bronze -- $100 cash prize
Five (5) Certificates of Merit
All award selections will be made by the juror. Awards will be presented at the Opening Reception, Saturday, September 20th, 2014
Juror:
Lilly Wei is a New York-based art critic, writer and independent curator whose focus is contemporary art. Wei has an MA in art history from Columbia University, New York.

Wei contributes to many publications in the United States and internationally and has written for Art in America since 1984. She is a contributing editor at ARTnews and a former contributing editor at Art Asia Pacific and frequently reports on international biennials and exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale and Documenta. Wei has written numerous articles, reviews, interviews, essays and monographs on contemporary and modern artists.

She serves on the board of several not-for-profit art organizations, including that of the International Association of Art Critics (USA) and Art Omi and was critic-in-residence at Art Omi in 1997 as well as Bowery Arts & Sciences.

Eligibility:
This is a national juried exhibition for artists 18 years of age or older working in clay. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. All work must be handcrafted by the artist from raw clay. Acceptable forms include sculpture, wall hangings and installations. The artwork cannot be functional -- production work and commercially manufactured pieces are not acceptable. Mixed media is acceptable as long as clay is the dominant component of the piece (at least 75%).
The size and weight limitations are as follows:
Wall hangable pieces should not exceed 6 feet in any direction;
Sculpture should not weigh over 300 pounds;
Installations should not weigh over 500 pounds.

Only original works may be submitted.

Oversize Work, Assemblages and Installations are welcome at the discretion of BWAC, but must meet all other specifications and be delivered, installed and removed by the artist upon arrangement with BWAC staff.

Fees:
Early bird submissions – June 2nd - $45 for up to five (5) images plus $5 for each additional image.
On Time Submissions between June 3rd and June 16th -- $55 for submission of up to five (5) images,plus $5 for each additional image.

Late Submissions between June 17th and June 30th -- $65 for submission of up to five (5) images, plus$5 for each additional image.

All entry fees are non-refundable.

All selected work must be hand delivered and assembled/installed by the artist. Display possibilities include: pedestals, walls/pedestals, hanging from the ceiling or as installation.

Judging:
Final judging will be on-site.  Entries that differ significantly from their digital images may be rejected.  Decision of the judge is final.

Acceptance:
Notification of acceptance of work will be made via e-mail by Monday, August 4, 2014.

Delivery of Accepted Work:
Work must be hand delivered to BWAC at 499 Van Brunt Street, Brooklyn on Thursday, September 4thfrom 5:00pm to 7:30pm, or Saturday, September 6th from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, or Sunday, September 7thfrom 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Sales and Commissions:
All work must be for saleBWAC will retain a 25% commission on all exhibition sales. The price represented on the artist entry form will be the sale price. No changes will be allowed. Sold works will remain until the end of the exhibition.

Removal:
Artwork must be removed by the artist or agent on Saturday, November 1st, 12:00pm to 4:00pm or onSunday, November 2nd, 12:00pm to 4:00 pm. Any work not removed during this specified time will be disposed of at BWAC’s discretion.

Liability:
BWAC is not responsible for any damage, breakage, replacement or cost associated with any damage or breakage that may have occurred during transport or unpacking. Every precaution will be taken in handling the entries, but BWAC assumes no liability for any loss or damage to any artist’s work while in our care, custody or control, before, during or after the exhibition. Each artist, if they wish, needs to provide their own insurance.

Use of Images:
Any image submitted may be used for marketing and promotional purposes directly related to this show. This use may include publication in any publications, printed materials, advertisements, or electronic media. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.
